JoFloor® 28

JoFloor® 28 is a structural underfloor heating (UFH) build‑up designed primarily for renovation projects over timber joists. The system comprises a 22mm T+G chipboard base panel and a 6mm MDF top panel or 8mm tile top panel, both with aluminium foil layers to enhance heat transfer and speed up response times – delivering efficient, even heat across finished floors.

The printed top panel indicates pipe runs and fixing points, enabling fast, accurate installation and reducing on‑site errors. For tiled areas, the standard 6mm MDF top panel can be replaced with the 8mm JoFloor® tile top panel to suit the chosen floor finish while preserving thermal performance and structural integrity.

When installing JoFloor® 28 over joists, the 22mm P5 chipboard base forms a structural decking with grooves to receive AmbiFlex® P12 pipe. The double Alu‑Foil layers (base and top) increase output and improve warm‑up times, making the system a reliable choice for retrofit applications that demand both strength and performance.

Why Choose JoFloor® 28?

  • Double Alu‑Foil Layers: Enhanced heat output and faster response across the floor area.
  • Printed Top Panel: Shows pipe locations and screw points for quick, precise fitting over joists.
  • Structural Build‑Up: 22mm T+G P5 flooring‑grade chipboard base panel for strength over timber joists.
  • Finish‑Ready Flexibility: Choice of 6mm MDF top panel or 8mm tile top board for tiled areas.
  • High Performance Output: Indicative up to 107 W/m² at 45°C MWT and 0 tog covering.
  • Quick Heat‑Up: Grooved, foiled base board improves responsiveness compared with conventional build‑ups.

System Components & Build‑Up

This engineered assembly provides a stable structural deck over joists with integrated UFH channels and clear fixing/pipe guidance for efficient installation.

Thermal Performance
Tested in accordance with BS EN 1264‑2:2021, JoFloor® 28 achieves up to 107 W/m² at 20°C room temperature with MWT 45°C and 0 tog covering. Performance will vary depending on covering type, pipe centres and building heat‑loss characteristics.

Floor Finishes
JoFloor® 28 is ready for finishes on completion of the structural panel installation. Use the MDF top panel for typical finishes, and specify JoFloor® tile top panel where tiles are required to provide the correct substrate and load distribution.

JoFloor® 28 FAQs

Where is JoFloor® 28 typically used?

JoFloor® 28 is primarily intended for renovation projects over timber joists, providing a structural deck with integrated UFH for efficient heat delivery.

What top board options are available for different finishes?

How does JoFloor® 28 achieve higher output and quicker warm up?

Installing the JoFloor® 28 System

Step 1. Ensure the working area is clean, flat, structural and stable. Fit the JoFloor® 28 tongue-and-groove base boards just as you would a standard 22mm chipboard floor.

Step 2. Plan your pipe routes from the manifold to the heating zone. Pipes should be run under the structural flooring and then come up into the zone it is serving. The base board should be drilled at a shallow angle to facilitate the pipe entering the board at an angle and not pushing up the cover panel in the process.

Step 3. Pipe each loop into the JoFloor® 28 base boards, leaving long enough length on the pipes to be routed back under the floor to the manifold. Ensure the pipe doesn’t get any debris in while routing them back to the manifold.

Step 4. Once pressure tested, fix your JoFloor® 28 top panels using the screw positions indicated on the panel. If more fixing is required, take care not to screw through the UFH pipes marked on the top panel.

Step 5. You are now ready for floor finishes. Carpets and wood can go directly on top of the MDF Top panel. Tiles and vinyl should use the Tile Top panels. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for floor finishes.
