AmbiDeck® 18

AmbiDeck® 18 is a low‑profile underfloor heating (UFH) system designed for rapid installation over both solid and timber floors, offering a slim 18mm build‑up while incorporating a high‑density insulation layer. The cement‑coated surface provides a rigid, durable platform that can be tiled directly, making the system ideal for refurbishment and fast‑track projects where minimal floor height increase is essential.

The precision‑grooved 18mm XPS panels accept 12mm AmbiFlex® P12 pipe, with universal radius returns machined into each board. Additional pipe channels can be easily routed on site where required, offering full flexibility during installation. Certified to BS EN 1264‑2:2021, AmbiDeck® 18 delivers robust thermal performance and long‑term reliability.

When laid on a concrete floor, the panels are adhered using flexible tile adhesive or DeckBond spray adhesive, while timber floors require mechanical fixing using AmbiDeck® screws and washers (minimum 12 fixings per board). Tiles can be laid directly over the system; other finishes such as wood, carpet or vinyl require a thin levelling compound layer for optimal finish quality.

Why Choose AmbiDeck® 18?

  • Low‑Profile 18mm Build‑Up: Ideal for retrofit projects with strict build‑up limits.
  • Direct‑Tile Surface: Cement‑coated board allows tiles to bond directly after priming.
  • High‑Density XPS Insulation: Strong compressive strength with improved thermal efficiency.
  • Fast Installation: Lightweight boards with universal pipe grooves simplify installation.
  • Universal Panel System: Includes Standard, Highway and CornerBoard variants for minimal cutting and maximum coverage.
  • Heat‑Pump Ready: Efficient performance at low flow temperatures.

System Components & Build‑Up

  • Final floor finish (tiles directly; other finishes require 4-6 mm AmbiFibre Pro levelling compound)
  • Flexible tile adhesive (concrete substrate) or AmbiDeck® screws and washers (timber substrate)
  • AmbiDeck® 18 panels, cement‑coated high‑density XPS, 1200 x 600 x 18mm, three variants (Standard/Highway/CornerBoard)
  • 12mm AmbiFlex® P12 pipe, approx. 8m per m² of heated area
  • Structural subfloor: level concrete or timber

This layered construction provides an insulated, tile‑ready UFH solution suited to both new‑build and retrofit applications.

Thermal Performance
Tested in accordance with BS EN 1264‑2:2021, AmbiDeck® 18 achieves up to 79 W/m² at 20°C room temperature with MWT 45°C and 0 tog covering. Performance will vary depending on covering type, pipe centres and building heat‑loss characteristics.

Floor Finishes

  • Tiles: Directly over the cement‑coated panel (prime & fill joints).
  • Wood / Carpet / Vinyl: Install over 4-6mm fibre‑reinforced levelling compound for correct load‑spread and finish.

AmbiDeck® 18 FAQs

Can AmbiDeck® 18 be tiled directly?

Yes. The cement coated surface is designed for direct tiling, requiring only priming and flexible adhesive at board joints.

Can AmbiDeck® 18 be used on timber floors?

What finishes need a levelling layer?

Installing the AmbiDeck® 18 System

Step 1. Ensure the working area is swept, clean and stable. Prime concrete surfaces to improve adhesion before laying the system.

Step 2. Spread an even bed of flexible tiling adhesive over the area before laying the AmbiDeck® 18 panels. For timber subfloors, mechanically fix each board using AmbiDeck® Screws and Washers (12 fixings per board).

Step 3. Install the AmbiDeck® 18 panels across the full area, ensuring the radius returns are positioned correctly at room edges. Allow the adhesive to fully dry before proceeding.

Step 4. Fit the UFH pipework into the channels in the AmbiDeck® panels, following the pipe layout shown on the supplied UFH design drawing.

Step 5. Tiling can be installed directly – prime the boards and fill any gaps with flexible tile adhesive. For carpet, vinyl or wood flooring, apply a minimum 6mm levelling compound over the AmbiDeck® 18 system before laying the final finish.
