Underfloor Heating Won’t Turn Off

Wet Underfloor heating

Floor heating stays on all the time

Below are a few common areas to check if the floor seems to be overly hot or your underfloor heating won’t turn off. The consequences of not fixing this will result in overheating and wasting energy.

Check Thermostat Settings

Check the thermostat settings, normally the thermostat shows a flame symbol when calling for heat. This is seen on the screen of your thermostat.

To correct this, you will need to change the thermostat settings. Find your thermostat and download the manual from our UFH resources section of the website.

Actuator Head Failure

There are wired actuator heads on the return bar of the underfloor heating manifold, if these are not correctly installed then they will let water pass by resulting in the floor staying warm. To rectify this you can tighten up the silver collar under the actuator head.

Incorrect Wiring

If the thermostats don’t appear to be calling for heat on the screen and the wiring centre is showing that a thermostat is calling for heat, then check the wiring as it could be that if a wire is in the wrong place. A permanent live is in a switch live position.

Mixed zone wiring

If one room is very warm and another is very cold, its likely that the room thermostat is opening the wrong manifold actuator head. A possible fix to this is to check the manifold label for which loops serve which rooms and make sure that when you turn on a thermostat only the manifold actuators serving that area open. If they open the wrong room then you have found the cause of your issue.

Incorrect manifold loop label

If the manifold label is incorrect then you may experience hot areas and cold areas. To prove each loop, its best to turn all the rooms off and open one loop at a time and wait to see if the heat comes through in the expected area of the floor. Once you have identified the correct labelling this will need to be corrected.
