St Peters Chase, Thurston

Hydronic underfloor heating supply and technical design support for a new-build residential development utilising air source heat pumps.
Project role note: Ambiente supplied the UFH products and provided technical design support. Installation was carried out by WMS Underfloor Heating.

The Project Brief

BDW Trading Ltd (Barratt Homes Anglia) incorporated underfloor heating into the ground floor specification across a selection of new homes at St Peters Chase, Thurston, with air source heat pumps forming the primary heat source.

By the time the UFH specification was confirmed, a number of plots had already progressed to DPC and oversite stage. That created immediate programme pressure: design work, product supply and installation planning all had to move quickly so concrete slabs could be poured without delaying the wider build schedule.

WMS Underfloor Heating, as the appointed installer, worked with Ambiente to secure a solution that combined the right UFH products with responsive technical design support.

The Challenge

The project combined tight timescales with technical complexity. Two different sub-floor constructions had to be accommodated across the development, so the solution could not rely on a single standard approach.

At the same time, the system needed to be designed for efficient low-temperature operation alongside air source heat pumps while still meeting the required heat outputs for each plot type. That meant careful attention to pipe spacing, circuit lengths, flow rates and flow temperatures from the outset.

The Solution

Ambiente supplied the specified UFH products for the development, including AmbiTak and AmbiCastellated systems, manifold stands and the 500G separating layer.
Alongside product supply, Ambiente’s technical team supported the project with plot-by-plot underfloor heating designs tailored to the different build-ups on site. This design-led approach helped optimise the key system variables needed to balance performance, efficiency and buildability.
Close coordination between design, supply and installation teams helped maintain momentum on site, answer technical queries quickly and keep the project aligned with the build programme.

Why This Approach Worked

  • Flexible system selection: Different sub-floor requirements could be addressed without compromising the overall programme.
  • Fast programme response: Rapid technical turnaround helped protect slab-pour dates and reduce the risk of knock-on delays.
  • Low-temperature compatibility: The design approach supported efficient operation with air source heat pumps and modern heating expectations.
  • Clear installer support: Supplying the right products alongside technical design input gave the appointed installer a practical route to delivery.

The Result

The supply and design package was delivered within the programme requirements, allowing WMS Underfloor Heating to proceed with installation and helping the project team keep the concrete slab programme on track.

The finished homes benefit from an efficiently designed underfloor heating solution suited to low-temperature operation and modern heat-pump-led design. For Ambiente, the project demonstrates the value of combining product supply with practical technical support at the point it matters most.

St Peters Chase is a strong example of how early coordination, accurate design input and the right UFH specification can help keep a demanding residential development moving.
